Swagelok® Ammonia Sampler
Safe, consistent and fast, ready-to-install solution for monitoring ammonia quality.
Consistent and safe process monitoring for ammonia
The process of monitoring the quality of toxic ammonia can be challenging. Manual sampling involves considerable occupational safety risks, time-consuming, and samples are often not comparable.
Swagelok has developed a ready-to-install CGA G-2.2 compliant solution, which raises sample reliability and operator safety to a completely new level. Swagelok’s Ammonia Sampler aims to minimize workers' exposure to ammonia and to prevent possible work accidents when manual handling.
Anhydrous ammonia is used in the production of fertilizers, plastics, textiles, oil and in the manufacturing of other derivatives. To avoid ammonia stress corrosion cracking in storage tanks and product quality concerns, the product must be regularly sampled to verify a water content of 0.2% to 0.5%.
Benefits in a nutshell:
Safety. Manual handling is avoided. No close contact with boiling ammonia.
Uniformity. The Ammonia Sampler measures the sample systematically in the required conditions before the ammonia boils. Sample results are reliable.
Real-time monitoring and fast process. Sampling is easy and safe. The process requires less operator's time during sample taking.
The safety of closed sampling system
Our solution has closed sampling devices that improve safety by limiting an operator's exposure and the effects to the environment caused by emissions.
Closed-circuit sampling does not require the need for the operators to wear protective equipment related to ammonia.
With transparent doors, operators can visually observe and monitor sample conditions.
Designed for precision
In the manual sampling process, liquid ammonia is typically sampled at its boiling point, i.e. at -33°C. Manual ammonia sampling is rarely comparable on a consistent basis and the possibility of human error is high.
The exact amount of ammonia is difficult to define as a boiling liquid in a test tube, and as the results are determined in small percentages of water content, the homogeneity of the samples is dependent on the manual handling of the sample.
With Swagelok’s Ammonia Sampler, pre-cooled residual tubes prevent aggressive boiling that threatens filling accuracy. When filling the residual tube, the cap assembly helps to dispense the exact sample size
Efficient process monitoring
Evaporating an ammonia sample also takes a considerable amount of time – operators collect the samples by hand and leave them under heat sources until the results can be measured, after at least eight hours.
The Swagelok Ammonia Sampler can reduce the sampling time to about two hours, and there is no need to monitor the sample process.
Ease of sampling
Sampling is controlled with minimal operation; one handle. A geared mechanism controls four valves with one handwheel, controlling "off", "purge", "chill" and "sample" functions.
The heat adjustment is controlled from the touchscreen interface, which improves the consistency of sampling and prevents overheating. The easy-to-use, intuitive user interface offers step-by-step instructions on the screen to guide the operator.
